Part of the New Jets Uniforms

Just the pants. This is thanks to a Twitter tweet from Blake Wheeler and Chris at Icethetics, the best looking hockey aesthetics website online.

Seriously, check out Icethetics.

You might also want to read an article from the Ottawa Sun discussing the Jets jerseys. Here's some highlights.

The Winnipeg Jets will have only two uniforms this coming season: home and away.

Although it’s become common over the past several years for NHL and other pro sports teams to don third jerseys for some games, it doesn’t look like the Jets will follow suit, at least not this year.

“There will likely not be a third alternate jersey this year, just due to the process of getting the main two done,” said Scott Brown, director of communications for True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Jets. “We’re going to hopefully focus on the main logos and the main jerseys.”

Brown said a common one showing a dark blue jersey with the main plane logo in the middle is “not even close” to legitimate. The same goes for any other supposed sneak previews.

A couple of things about this. First of all, I really like the idea of only having the home and away jerseys this season; although, it appears the reason behind it is different than why I'm opposed.

Manufacturing is the problem for True North. To a degree, I understand them wanting a third jersey. Money rolling in. However, I think my reasoning is pretty sound as well, as I said in an earlier post:

If the team is smart, they will not reveal a third this year. Let things sorta pan out. That way, if there is something the fans really think they should have done (maybe bring back the old looking jerseys or, dare I say, go with a wordmark), you can do it and know it will be a success.

See, my point is they have the possibility of royally screwing up this jersey. I'm not hoping for that, I'm not necessarily predicting that, but I am concerned. If they wait, they can add something the fans will have voiced their opinion for.

So what will the new jerseys look like? It's a very highly guarded secret. There have been a few hints, but not many. Besides the blue pants, True North has said that the only red featured in the jersey will be on the leaf in the logos. Also, the "wing logo" will be on the shoulders.

Other than that, we don't really know. Even the official shirts are in both light blue and dark blue. Those pants do appear to be a dark blue, but don't look at that as an indicator. The Sabres have dark blue pants with dark blue jerseys while the third Penguins jersey has dark blue pants with light blue sweaters.

So don't think there's a clear, established pattern of dark pants, dark jerseys or dark pants, light jerseys. You already know that, but thought I'd remind you. For the record, I'm hoping for a light blue jersey. And I might get my wish since the dark blue jerseys are "not even close".

More on the Jets jersey as it develops. The Jets have said that the official unveiling will be in early September. They have also indicated that the rookies will be wearing the jerseys in the Young Stars Tournment, which starts September 11. So that would be the latest date I would expect to see the new threads.

So what about that jersey available online already? Fake, says the Sun.

“The authentic jerseys won’t be available until October, and replica jerseys likely not until November. That comes from the manufacturer. And that's from Scott Brown.

There's a lot of fraud in the market, particularly from China, these days. So take warning against anything you see on the market today or before it's available through Reebok, the Jets, and the NHL.

Brown said it all comes down to fans making the right choice. “Do you want it right now or do you want the right thing?” he said.

Well said sir.
