First Live Jets On-Ice Action Today at 10:30pm
The Jets are taking part in the Young Stars Tournament, hosted by the Vancouver Canucks. True, the team has held a practice for the rookies at the MTS Iceplex in front of 1,000 fans (what!?), but those were practice drills and not even semi-game action. The first chance we will get to see the Jets in a game-type atmosphere will be when Mark Scheifele and other prospects take the ice in British Columbia later tonight.
Other teams participating are the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames in addition to the Winnipeg Jets and Canucks.
This is a series of exhibition games held at Pentiction, BC featuring mostly prospects of the teams.
It is considered by most that the Jets are the wild card team because of so many factors. Bottom line, everything is new so it's hard to judge how the young guys will act in this situation. Derek Jory of the Canucks breaks down the three prospects to watch on the Jets and a pair of sleepers to keep an eye on as well. I do not take credit for attempts at humor in the listing of the players. That's all Derek, for better or worse.
The Prospects:
Mark Scheifele
F - Drafted 1st round, 7th overall, in 2011 – His last name is hard to pronounce (it’s Shy-flea), but it isn’t difficult to see why the new Jets made him their first draft pick. The 18-year-old Barrie Colts centre was second on the team with 53 helpers and 75 points last season, his first in the OHL, he then made his home and native land proud with a Team Canada best six goals at the World Under-18 Championship.
Zach Yuen
D - Drafted 4th round, 119th overall, in 2011 – Yuen wanted to focus more on offence last season and the Tri-City Americans defenceman put his plan into action with a career-high eight goals, 24 assists and 32 points (seven goals, 21 helpers and 28 points more than his previous bests). He’s now a double-threat who can take goals away and help produce them at the other end.
Shayne Wiebe
F - Signed as free agent in 2011 – What would a Jory story be without me showing some love to my hometown Brandon Wheat Kings? Not that Wiebe needs my favoritism in the least; Brandon’s captain was seventh in WHL scoring with 44 goals for the Wheaties last season. He’ll slot in with the AHL’s St. John's IceCaps in 2011-12.
The Sleepers:
Ivan Telegin
F - Drafted 4th round, 101st overall, in 2010 by Atlanta – The native of Novokuznetsk, Russia, opted to make a move and play for the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit instead of remaining in his home country to find a path to the NHL, and so far so good for the 19-year-old centreman. He had 61 points (20-41-61) in 59 games last season and has averaged nearly a point a game in two years and 110 games with the Spirit; he made the OHL Second All-Rookie team in 2009-10.
Edward Pasquale
G - Drafted 4th round, 117th overall, in 2009 by Atlanta – Since entering the OHL in 2006-07, Pasquale has been a Bull, Duke, Spirit, Wolf and Gladiator, but he’s best described as a warrior. His 6-foot-2, 218-pound frame fills the net and he prevents the opposition from doing the same with quickness and smarts. He went 11-11-1 with a 2.93 GAA and .900 S% last season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves
If you are interested in watching any games in the tourney, you can see them for free in a streaming video feed from the Canucks.

I will be watching as soon as I get home from work. This will be the first time we will get to see the entire Jets uniform. So far, we know the jerseys and pants, and a look at the photos from rookie practice show us the helmets (white with the wordmark) and gloves (navy).
We just need to see the socks and we'll have the whole uniform. That will come later. This should be very exciting!
