Epcot: Future World Photos

At the request of my Stephanie, here are some photos of Future World at Epcot. It's a whole lot, almost 100 photos.

Now, in case you are wondering, I don't do the slideshows like other websites because I want to quickly see my favorite photo and not wait for it to come back around.

To start with, that big golf ball thing (actually, it's a geosphere) is Spaceship Earth. A fascinating journey through the evolution of human communication. Below are a few shots of Spaceship Earth from a few different angles, including the inside which maps out where everyone on the ride from that day lives.

Next we head into Innoventions, both East and West. Here, you can play, smash, invent, and explore as you learn how to make the world a better place.

This includes waste management, fire and storm preparedness, and money saving tips. There is also "The Sum of all Thrills", an interactive attraction where you design your own roller coaster, then ride it. I haven't done this yet, but I am waiting to give it a whirl. I'll let you know how it was.

You can also jam out with some robots, ride a Segway, watch a slapstick show about velcro called "What's Your Problem?!?" (more exciting than it sounds), and try to break stuff in some curious labs.

I really enjoyed the next lab.

Don't ask, but let's just say it was painfully fun.

Anyway...

Next, we move into a model house where you can get ideas about futuristic products already available. For example, the kitchen table (with the basket of balls on it) is made out of pressed cardboard. The kid's circle bed is suspended from the celling. And used hot water flows down in a coil system while other water is pushed up through an inter-mixed coil system. This helps heat the new water using the old water without any moving parts (not pictured). The whole house was pretty cool.

To the east is the Universe of Energy, Mission: Space and Test Track. For dining, you can try the Electric Umbrella which never requires reservations (wink-wink to those in the know). There's also a cool wash to refresh yourself as well as Mousegear, a futuristic store with mouse wears.

The Universe of Energy stars Ellen Degeneres and is pretty outdated, talking about energy and where it comes from. Mission: Space is a training, G-Force simulator for a trip to Mars. Test Track puts you and your vehicle through the tests a GM vehicle goes through to make sure it's safe for the road.

To the west lies the Character Spot. Here you can meet Mickey, Pluto, Minnie, Donald and Goofy all at once.

To get away from the heat, there's always Fountain View Ice Cream, and the Coca-Cola Cool Spot where you can try Coke products from around the world, which are all nasty.

Also to the West is the Imagination Institute which includes Journey into Imagination with Figment and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience.

The Land is also west of Spaceship Earth. This includes Sunshine Seasons and The Garden Grill for eating, the Circle of Life show with Timon, Pumba and Simba and the very popular Soarin', a hang-gliding adventure over scenic California.

The Land also hosts the recently reopened Living with the Land. This boat voyage goes through the amazing greenhouse where much of the food featured in the previous mentioned restuarants.

(Author's Warning: Jesse, stop reading.)

Finally, you can find The Seas with Nemo & Friends. This includes the pretty nifty Turtle Talk with Crush interactive show. Plus, there is an aquarium there for exploration and a restuarant called The Coral Reef with a terrific view of the, well, the coral reef.

Jesse thinks that adding Nemo and Friends was an obination to his precious Living Seas. Once a world of science is now a zany adventure accessable by "clamobile". Sorry Jesse!

Something else really neat is The Art of Disney store. This is high quality figures and prints from Disney artists. Take a look.

That's it! No more Future World! That's everything.

Well, almost everything. The following are a few random things you can find, including the Jamminators and some random landscaping pictures. There's also the monorail and some water. Epcot water is unique. There's a waterfall that flows up, water that leaps from pot to pot, and a dancing fountain with music.

  1. Innoventions of so often overlooked (by us, too) but there's some cool stuff in there.

Another interesting factoid about Futureworld is the layout of the paths and walkways on the east side (left brain) compared to the west side (right brain). On the left side, all of the walkways are straight and structured with lines and angles to represent the left brain, with the attractions on this side being more scientific to complement that. Compare it to the right side with the Imagination Pavillion, Land and Living Seas, all the walkways and paths on this side are meandering and curved to represent the right side of the brain, the more creative side.
