Star Wars Night at the Braves Wrap Up

Re-posted with the newly uploaded video from Jedireject. Thanks!

Okay, while the game itself was a disaster, fans at Turner Field had a great time with the characters during the first annual Star Wars Night.

Players and the umps got in on the action too. I certainly hope Angel Pagan (#16) of the New York Mets was told to "move along".

On umpire even asked to borrow a stormtrooper's gun. The trooper thought wisely in not allowing that to happen.

Here's some video of some of the pregame action and between inning games as well as the broadcast team getting in on the fun.

Note how the troopers are paying special attention NOT to step on the chalk lines. Not easy in a bucket, but they were successful.

A few notes about what you saw. First of all, that video was obviously taken right after the gates opened because the crowds around the characters were massive. Absolutely massive.

Take a look again at the Tool Race. Vader and the drill (Two-Bit) practiced a few times before going out. In case you don't know, the gag is that Two-Bit never never wins the race between him and three other characters. He is normally knocked down early or right at the last minute. This time, he took out the other three and got a commanding lead. Then, Vader.

You can see some pieces of tomahawk coming out from his shoe. That's padding used to keep the shoe on his foot. You'll also see a man behind the wall. Pay no attention to the man behind the wall. He's the entertainment manager who is telling Vader and the troopers to get back off the field before they get in the way of the other tools.

And why one trooper celebrated Two-Bit's defeat is unclear.

Here's a video featuring Chewie getting that long awaited kiss.

The behind the scenes stories about that kiss. I'm standing just off camera holding the crowd back from getting in the shot. Leia looks at me and says she can't see the video board. I tell her I'll yell "go go go" when they are GO GO GO GO GO!

That's why she is looking left in the first part of the video.

Also, it was quite comical getting Chewie in that car. He had to take his long legs off in order to get in. Kia sunroofs aren't really all that big.

Fun was had by all. Especially the Mets who destroyed the Braves on the field. Some Mets liked it more than others...

They were portrayed as the bad guys on the video board throughout the game.

The postgame fireworks show was set to Star Wars music. It's always hard to hear the music from the stands because of the proximity of the fireworks, but it's always a fun show.

There was talks of a potential giveaway. This half poster but with the time removed and printed Chipper Jones signature in the upper corner.

It didn't happen, but given the success and fan response to the event, there's always next season.

Portions of the ticket sales specific to Star Wars Night went to Stand Up 2 Cancer.

Special thanks (that I forgot to mention in the original post because I'm an idiot), but thanks to the Georgia 501st, the Rebel Legion-Bespin Base, and the Atlanta Braves.
